Summary Notes:
  Interregional Strategic Planning Meeting

Purpose:  To refine the services and activities conducted on behalf of all market partners; to facilitate plans leading to more efficient ways of doing business; and to identify issues and new opportunities to be addressed in order to keep the industry efficient, productive, growing and financially sound.

Present: Brandon Barnes, Bill Barnhart, Jeanne Campbell, John Chambers, Susan Choi, Leroy Czaskos, Vicky Etheridge, Beth Garret, Mark Gorelczenko, Elaine Harbison, Sandy Johnson, Addie Kinsinger, Bill Meyers, Pat Miller, Barb Ravellette, Mary Lou Ray, Kate Santhuff, Carol Satchwell, Lee Solanche, Francis Thompson, Gaylen Whited

Intended Outcomes: To create preliminary consensus on the most important issues/activities that can be undertaken, using a published "white paper" to outline the tasks, the funding requirements, timelines, and strategies needed to complete the activity.

Agenda:   After initially defining the "industry", briefing papers were distributed and assignments made for three concurrent breakout sessions to discuss Mutual Marketing Efforts; Doing Business Digitally, and Instructional Resources Development.  At a general session, a consensus summarization of the breakout discussions was developed, and four committees were formed to complete specific tasks: CORE; WWW; FV/CONFERENCES; PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT/FUNDING.

WWW Committee: 
Task: Develop a prototype website incorporating features identified in the breakout sessions.

Committee: Addie Kinsinger, Gaylen Whited, Kate Santhuff, Elaine Harbison, (co-chair), Mark Gorelczenko (co-chair), Beth Garrett.

Report:   The Instructional Technology Marketplace prototype website was previewed at FirstView '96 at the Arizona Biltmore, Phoenix, AZ - and was launched August, 1996 as the registered domain of itmonline.com by Harbison Learning Systems, Inc. 

Funding:   In cooperation with the Central Educational Network, partial initial funding was provided through a charter membership of buyers and program distributor sponsors.  Currently, the website is funded through program distributor fees and client user pay service fees.  Additional funding and support is provided through website sponsorship and Harbison Learning Systems, Inc.

Use: During the period from Jan 1, 1999 through Aug 18, 1999, the website recorded 184,000 hits.
